HOT AIR BALLOONING

Hot Air Ballooning in Sri Lanka is a novel activity to the emerald Isle of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka has had a number of activities to entertain visitors that come from around the globe, over the years but once in a while something comes up that just enhances the Sri Lankan experience to the next level. Ballooning is one such activity. Introduced during the past decade it has quickly become a sensation among visitors to the country. Hot Air Ballooning is a unique way to view such an amazing country, and it is sure to be a once in a lifetime experience.

The main area to try out a Hot Air Balloon ride in Sri Lanka is Dambulla. Dambulla as you know is one point of the Cultural triangle of Sri Lanka. You will join us at our meeting point at the Kandalama Hotel, overlooking the Kandalama lake. The take-off point is usually on the upper ground of the Kandalama lake where the operators have a good open area to prep the balloon.

We will meet up at the take-off point just before sunrise. A normal take-off is usually scheduled right after dawn so that you can take advantage of the cool environment, in what is usually a warm part of the country and still be able to get good visibility because of the rising sun. This start time varies depending on the season and will usually be communicated to you in the evening of the day prior to the day of your flight. Usually the time that you should get to the starting point of the flight is 6.30 in the morning.

We usually contact you one hour prior to the meeting time on the morning of the flight just to confirm that the flight is happening place. Usually the weather is fair but in case the weather is bad we will contact you and inform that the flight has been cancelled. It is a rare occurrence but it does happen once in a while.

If all goes well and we are able to take off on time you can expect a two hour mesmerizing ride before touching down again. All in all you can expect to be back at your hotel around 8.30-9.00am.

The ride in a hot air balloon is a truly magical experience. The sense you get when you are floating in the wind at the mercy of one of the most powerful natural forces in the world it can be a truly life changing experience. It is a surreal and tranquil place that you can only reach if you try out the ride.

This 360 degree view from 2000 feet in the air will make you feel like a giant and help you see things from a whole other perspective. One of the most famous landmarks that you can see would be Sigiriya, the Lion Rock Fortress and the Pidurangala Mountain. If your are really lucky and if the weather and the visibility favorable, you will be able to glimpse the giant stupas from a distance. These monoliths will only be visible on a very clear day so be forewarned.
You will be able to spot plenty of wildlife though you will be able to travel over quite a few wildlife parks where you will be able to see great herds of elephants and buffalos and giant flocks of birds.

After a grand and magical ride you will be able to descend back to the ground with some amazing memories.
